(English) The main subject of this complaint is the harmful impact of largescale environmental pollution on the health of people living in the catchment area of the River Asopos and near the industrial area of Oinofyta, 50 km north of Athens.

(English) The objective of this work is to correlate the accumulation of trace elements in food tubers with possible alterations of the secondary plant metabolism. Samples of carrots, onions and potatoes grown in the environmentally polluted area of Asopos river in Viotia, Greece and other Greek areas (control) were analysed for carotenoids by HPLC-UV and DPPH antioxidant activity.

Τheory guides, experiment decides με έμαθε ένας δάσκαλος εδώ στο Χημικό...και από τότε...τα πειράματα που κάνουμε ψάχνουν να απαντήσουν ένα τέτοιο ερώτημα. Για παράδειγμα, περνάνε τα βαρέα μέταλλα από το αρδευτικό νερό στα τρόφιμα βολβούς? Οι μέχρι σήμερα μετρήσεις μας λένε πως ναι περνάνε!
